croton seeds

The croton nut is a valuable resource in the agricultural sector, particularly in the production of biofuels and organic fertilizers. By integrating croton nuts into our operations, Agristainability enhances sustainable practices and mitigates climate change impacts. Our comprehensive process ensures the quality and efficiency of the croton nut supply chain, reinforcing our commitment to environmental stewardship and economic vitality.
At Agristainability, we recognize the significance of the croton nut in driving sustainable agriculture and renewable energy. The process of purchasing and utilizing croton nuts involves several stages, each critical to maintaining the highest standards of quality and efficiency.

Croton Aggregation & Processing Journey

Welcome to Agristainability’s Croton Value Chain! Discover how we sustainably transform croton nuts into clean biofuel and eco-friendly biomass briquettes — step by step.

🌳 1. Collection from Aggregators

We work with contracted aggregators across Kenya who are trained and equipped to collect only dry croton nuts from farmers and natural forests. These aggregators deliver the nuts directly to our central warehouse in Sagana.

🏢 2. Arrival at Sagana Warehouse

At our Sagana facility, croton nuts are weighed, quality-checked, and stored in ventilated, dry conditions. We handle over 15 metric tons daily, ensuring a continuous flow into processing.

⚙️ 3. Dehulling Process

The nuts are passed through our custom-built croton dehullers. These machines crack the outer shell, separating the clean croton seeds from the husk in a single, efficient process.

🌰 4. Clean Croton Seeds

The dehulled croton seeds are thoroughly cleaned and sorted, ready to enter the next phase — biofuel production. These seeds are rich in oil and serve as a top-grade bio feedstock.

♻️ 5. Croton Husk – From Waste to Energy

Nothing goes to waste. The croton husk, a byproduct of dehulling, is collected and sun-dried. It’s then processed into high-energy biomass briquettes, an alternative to charcoal or firewood.

🔋 6. Biofuel & Biomass Briquette Production

• Croton Oil extracted from the croton seeds is refined into sustainable biofuel for industrial energy and cleaner transport.
• Biomass Briquettes: Produced from croton husk and food waste sourced from agri-processors, providing a clean, renewable, and smokeless energy alternative.

Tree Planting and Growth: Croton trees absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere during their growth, acting as carbon sinks. This process helps reduce the overall concentration of greenhouse gases, mitigating climate change.
Long-term Carbon Storage: The carbon sequestered by croton trees is stored in the biomass and soil, providing long-term carbon storage solutions.

Biofuel Production: Croton oil is used as a biofuel feedstock, offering a renewable alternative to fossil fuels. By replacing fossil fuels with biofuels, we significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Eco-friendly Processing: Our advanced processing techniques are designed to minimize emissions and energy consumption, further reducing our carbon footprint.

Soil Health Improvement: Croton cultivation improves soil health by preventing erosion, enhancing soil structure, and increasing organic matter content. Healthy soils are more resilient to climate change impacts and better at sequestering carbon.
Biodiversity Promotion: Croton trees contribute to biodiversity by providing habitats for various plant and animal species. Biodiverse ecosystems are more resilient to climate change and offer essential ecosystem services.

Climate-Resilient Crops: Croton trees are hardy and adaptable to various climatic conditions. Their resilience to drought and poor soils makes them ideal for regions vulnerable to climate change.
Community Resilience: By supporting local communities with sustainable farming practices and diversified income sources, we enhance their resilience to climate-related shocks and stresses.

Alternative Income Source: By providing farmers with an alternative income source through croton cultivation, we help reduce the pressure to clear forests for agriculture or other activities. This helps preserve forested areas and their carbon sequestration capacity.
Agroforestry Practices: Integrating croton trees into agroforestry systems promotes sustainable land use and reduces deforestation rates.
